Come on, can’t you just make a system that just works. That doesn’t need us to venture so deep into the folders? Yes i know that it makes things neater and such for you, but why can’t you let the system auto classify our assignments according to our level and then just let each user see what they have to see, rather than search for something within a load of crap that you don’t need to see?

This is a workspace from microsoft, which basically some how illustrates how cloud computing is useful.

Here’s a short summary on how it works.

You can create a new word/powerpoint/excel document, and work on it direct on the browser without having to install your own copy of office, you just click, and out comes a text area where you can do anything you want/

When you’re done, you click save and it’s saved to your workspace. and from there, you can share that workspace with other people as long as you have their ID. Anyone who has the share permission will be able to see that workspace when they log in.

For example, i create a workspace called Secondary 4. And it will list out all the assignments. That workspace is only being shared to all the sec4 students, so the other levels won’t be able to see. I mean like, it’s THAT simple. Why can’t you just make it simple. Why?

I haven’t really tried many of these. And that this time it’s not curry chicken, it’s curry curry. So i’m quite excited to see how well it taste. I mean, if it screws up, i guess i’ll have to rely on the 7 eleven thats roughly 300m away.
(p.s. i wonder if my slurping of the noodles will wake my brother up)

okay. First mouth. It tasted not bad. Not as spicy as the color looks. It looks pretty red/orange. But overall, it’s quite well, nice i guess.

Anyway, i’ve been thinking about this for ages. Since i ain’t really allowed to spend too much on my computer right now, i was thinking of spending 80bucks on it. Like, “budget” of some kind.I was thinking if i should add more ram, change the CPU cooler, or make my computer TV capable.

Which one do you think i should go for? I simplify the options
-Increase speed
-Increase reliability
-Make it able to watch TV

Which one should i choose? And should i add, i will be able to record the TV shows. In fact it could be in HD. I don’t know. All 3 options also damn tempting. What do you guys think?

Cloud computing.

I’m not talking about building computers on the clouds. I’m not talking about some, crazy idea that isn’t feasible. This is an actual workable concept that is probably the direction in which electronics is moving in.
Cloud computing refers to shifting the workload of our computers, towards the server’s side. And that we’ll access the applications through web browsers etc.
To put it simply.

Minimum requirements will not apply anymore. Everything would be processed from the developer’s side, then “played” (stream) to your computer via the internet.

In fact, that’s the new era of gaming. No more clunky hardware. All you need is internet. And a relatively fast one at that. We’re talking about internet that can transfer roughly 5~8MBps of data. Meaning, gaming would totally be online. You don’t need to install, you don’t need to have the required hardware, just login and play.

Anyways, i wanted to post about this game just now but was too engrossed in it and totally forgot about blogging. So here it is!  ( i guess i don’t need to type out the title again)

 

I must say, the graphics are pretty darn amazing like, everything is just so smooth and all, and that every motion just blends in so nicely. It’s rated like, the best game of 2009. It’s roughly a mixture between GTA IV and Assasin’s Creed. Well, on one note, the graphics isn’t as amazing as assasin’s creed But the gameplay, concept and such is still damn amazing.              
Hey. Why said that you’re not gonna right monsters. I admit, some of the monsters are pretty darn terrifying. But in this game, you feel sorta like a overpowered hero with just too much power to use just throwing and killing things around you. And you can swing around the city like spideman! (yes i’m not kidding about this one.) you’ll probably spend quite alot of your time just cruising around the cities for no particular reason. Just sight seeing in a nicer way.

And uh, for your own viewing pleasure. A video review of prototype from IGN.

 

As you can see, it’s a really really nice and cool piece of gameplay unique to it’s own style. I would recommend this game to anyone who has the hardware to run it. KM bought the game itself. Well, it’s worth buying i guess. But i don’t think i’ll be playing it over and over again so i guess i’ll save the money for the hardware and to do some other upgrades and stuffs. 

Back to the game. I just think it’s really cool. Everyone should try it out if you an. And well, if you can’t find the download for whatever reason, just go find the trial. It might be compelling enough for you to buy it or whatsoever. Just on a little note for people who understands, i run this on their “high” settings on a Nvidia GeForce 8600GT.

i’ve been sleeping pretty late these days. So i’ll just do a random post before i go and sleep. Like, i really need to reset my schedule and suh if not when the school reopens i’m going to die. Like fucking die. =.=

I’ve been looking through all my computer archives (not the blog posts, i meant the files that i’ve kept in my computer)

I was thinking, should i delete them away. Should i hold on to these files that might or might not be useful to me in the future? For example, i have a 218GB collection of anime in my external HDD. Which is actually not the complete collection. I still have around 90+ series in DVDs. Which amounts to about nearly 400GB more.

I have a movie folder that’s nearly 65GB in size. Along with many many other DVDs that backed up other files. I was thinking, should i just delete them away. What is the point of holding all these back. I really don’t know. But i just think that, it’s really nice to keep all these data. Like, i know that many people will just watch, and delete. Or just stream online. Or just go to a cinema, watch the movie and forget about it.

I don’t know why i just like to store them in my computer. In a sense they act as my memory i guess? I don’t know why i like to store these things, knowing that i might never watch them again.

It’s a very weird train of thought.

oh yeah. I had this very very weird dream this morning. I dreamt that i had chest hair! It was freaking scary i swear. I woke up and started touching my chest. i sighed in peace when i realised that i’m not stained by those hairy things. Man i swear i’ll go for some hair removal shit if i had chest hair. And since last time i tried the rounded corners thing is using css codings only, this time i’m going to try using image, it’ll be a perfect rounded corner this time.

But i really really have not much ideas on web designing now, i keep browsing other people’s works and find them to just be eons beyond my standard. Which makes me feel pretty pathetic to some extent. I guess everyone feels like this at times.

You know, i was thinking about super sizing my internet activity. I mean, like sourcing out for things to post about, blogging very regularly, tagging other people, just advertising my blog in short. Like, i want to see how much internet popularity this blog can get. I’ve been getting an average of about 30~50 counts a day depending on which day it is.

I calculated Tricia’s blog hits and it came to a rough 116.3hits per day. Pretty significant jump from mine. It shows that, if you have some photoshopped pictures in your blog. You will definitely get a good online traffic. (i mean, who doesn’t want to see chio bu)

Well, i’ve received feedbacks that my windows 2000 post is abit too chim for normal people to read.I didn’t really realise that cause i thought that i had already used quite simply terms for people to understand. I mean, come on. I'm already using windows 2000. I still have that windows 98 that is installing now. I wonder how much worse it'll get. I mean, it's amazing isn't it. 9years and so many things have changed.

And i guess i pretty much gave up on trying to make this work like, well. As efficiently as windows XP. Though windows 2000 is probably the most robust system that really hardly/never crash. (that's the reason why i'm testing anyways. To see what i can do to make it crash ^^ )

But when you're using a computer's hardware that is like, nearly 10 years into the future, i tell you, this system is blazing fast. lol. Everything is super responsive. And it's only running with that mere 256MB of ram i'm feeding it with. Vista crawls with 1GB of ram. Note the difference in technological enhancement

Technology is a good thing, it allows us to watch porn in comfort of our homes.

And did i mention that i can only install up to windows media player 9. Not even 10? And if you're telling me to use some other fucking media players. Let me tell you this.

oh isn't it just amusing how the games just looks the same after so many years.

oh, i just watched half an episode of yu-gi-oh in youtube. It kinda fits the atmosphere. Old system, old show. Old feeling.

oh yah, did i mention the download speeds. It proved to be quite an interesting statistics. I can hit around 1mbps using windows 2000. I didn't know that this sytem is capable of doing that. Futhermore, i tried downloading the same thing using windows 98. I peak out download speeds at 160kbs. It's just not meant to download fast.

Windows 98 is basically built for 56k modem internet connections. 160kbs, is like, godly for that time. I just find the results damn amusing. Cause i never really had the chance to experiment with these in the past. (i was still young and don't know anything about computers then)

Currently, i'm trying to download/install windowblinds. I want to see if the theme/skinning will work on win2k. I don't think it should. I mean, uxtheme.dll is only introduced in windows XP. I don't know. We'll see. If it works right. Woa, sibeh happy already.

And a little note for you guys
Actually there are still alot of people out there using win2k. For example, some arcades, some servers, and more interestingly, polyclinics. I saw it one day. Then i was freaking amused. I'm like, huh? Win2k?
Because it doesn't really crash. And that hopsitals have used win2k for a very long time as well. It's able to run really fast even with some lousy processors. I guess that's why people use it, cheap and light-weight. It gets the job done.

okay, i was wrong. windowblinds works on Win2k as well. I'm just installing the trial version to see how well it works. :D

yeah. Just testing out everything. And i still think that wordpress is the most elegant of them all. Though limited in customizability but then it's still pretty darn good. oh yeah. And the new tumblr or something. maybe i should create one there as well.
Well, the burning question would most probably be
"are you gonna update all of the blogs daily?"

Well, i really don't know. Depending on how much time i have and how the services are being used. I might consider abandoning blogger and start using something else. By the way, office live is a pretty cool thing. I won't talk much about it now. But maybe i'll introduce it to my class. A new way of elearning. A new way of sharing information with each other which proves to be much more easier.

it might be a little hard for you guys to understand.
so i'll just sum it up for you.
Let's take for example you have an game. Like, let's say. Halo 3. So usually you have to purchase the CD or download the game, then you need to have the required hardware to play the game right? With cloud computing, you can purchase the game online, then play directly online. Without downloading the game itself. You do not need to have the hardware to run the game as well. you just need a fast internet. The game itself is run at the server side, which let's say, if you purchase a game from microsoft, you're not actually running the game yourself, but it's microsoft that's running the game for you. But at real-time you can interact with it the same way you would on your comptuer.

This cloud concept make use of virtualization technology and dramatically reduces the operation costs.

Well, it's a very interesting concept and it's being put into place. Rapid developement and such. I really would look forward and see what the future has to bring for us.

In anycase, i guess i just have to go and study now. Nothing much else to say here. I guess i'll go explore the other blogging services later on. And see if i can come out with something interesting.

Why Am I Annoyed?

Imagine a windowless room in a nondescript office building. Inoffensive tan

carpet lines the floors, fluorescent lights hum softly overhead, and 20 seated

Microsoft employees flank a rectangular folding table in the center of the

room. On the table rests a Windows PC, and at its helm, a slack-jawed

cipher punches blindly at the controls in a vain attempt to carry out a task

requested by the team leader.

“OK, here’s the next exercise: find a picture of a badger on the Internet and

print it out on that printer there,” says the leader.

The observers—members of Microsoft’s Usability Research Group—diligently

note each click, keypress, and hesitation, hoping they’ll learn the

answer to the industry’s big secret: why do so many people find computers

difficult to use?

Over the years, Microsoft has uncovered many startling facts about PC users

with this system, and the software has been changed accordingly. For

instance, people new to computers apparently have a hard time with the

concept of overlapping windows. (Did I say “startling”? I meant “idiotic.”)

So, Microsoft spent six years designing a “Glass” interface for Windows

Vista with translucent borders that sort of show stuff underneath. Of course,

most people new to PCs figure out the concept of stacking windows after

about 10 minutes of fiddling, so is this actually a solution to a genuine

usability problem, or just glitzy eye candy included to give those still using

XP a compelling reason to upgrade?

Here’s another one: lots of people seem to get lost searching through long

menus for the tools they need, so once again, Microsoft snapped into

action. The team’s first attempt was “personalized menus”—a feature

found in earlier versions of Windows (including XP) and Microsoft Office—

which caused about half the items in a menu to vanish so nobody could find

them. In Windows Vista, Microsoft took a different tack and removed the

menus altogether. The good news is that you’ll no longer get lost looking

through menus. Of course, you won’t be able to find anything, either.

Or take the fact that, for years, people have been complaining about the

time it takes to load Windows. Rather than making the operating system

leaner and cleaner so that it starts faster, Microsoft’s designers have continued

to add features and complexity to the software, which results in longer

load times. The solution? Replace the Shut Down button in the Start menu

with a Sleep button, so once Windows starts, it’ll stay loaded in memory

even when you shut it off. Thereafter, it’ll take only a few seconds to get

your desktop back.

Truth be told, features like Sleep have been around for years, but they’ve

always sat on the sidelines, waiting for inquisitive people to discover them.

But thanks to Vista, Sleep is now the main dish, which means Windows

should start much faster now—whether you’re the inquisitive type or not—

and this should make a lot of people happy. The downside, of course, is that

it takes a constant supply of electricity to keep Windows loaded in memory,

causing your PC to suck power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week...even when

you’re not using it. This means shorter-lasting laptop batteries, higher electricity

bills, and more pollution from the power plants that now have to

power millions of sleeping Vista PCs.

What most people don’t know is that Sleep is actually a hybrid of the old

Standby and Hibernate power-saving modes, which means you can now

completely power off your PC and still get it to load quickly. Once again,

only the inquisitive—you, presumably—will be in the know, leaving the

masses to leave their PCs on all night.

Probably the most substantive change in Vista’s interface is the prominence

of the Search tool. Rather than being a separate window, it’s now permanently

lodged in the Start menu and at the top of every Explorer window.

What’s more, Windows now invisibly indexes most of your data, making

search results more or less instantaneous (a feat possible in earlier versions

of Windows only with free add-on desktop search software).

Unfortunately, that speed comes at a cost—namely, that your searches may

be out-of-date or incomplete, and you won’t even know it. In some cases,

you can search a folder full of JPEG images for *.jpg and get absolutely

nothing, or worse, a partial listing with no warning that it may be incomplete.

And when you do get the search results you want, there’s no telling

whether or not your favorite Details columns will be present since Vista

seems incapable of saving your preferences from one session to the next.

In short, the new Search feature shows promise, but its competence is limited

by a company that values marketable features over usable ones.
